Otherworld Miniatures Human Male Cleric

I've finally completed my set of 4 Otherworld male, human adventurers.  It has taken a few years for some reason.  The last piece of this puzzle was the cleric, who I call Brother Pugnacious. He's a tough guy who likes to keep a full flask of brandy at all times.

Once again, the hardest part for me was to decide what color his clothes should be.  I did not want to do khaki/beige colored robes because they have been done by so many others out there;  I decided on this gray/blue color.

A lot of subtle details are lost by the camera phone, like his light five oclock shadow and some of the hair highlights.  The blanket straps are a different color than the blanket.

My favorite part of this mini is most likely the backpack!

Grenadier Lost Lands Human Cleric

This mini is another of several that I found in a bin at my local game store.  It is supposed to be a human cleric, and it comes from the Grenadier Lost Lands boxed set released in the early 1990's. The ears on this mini are pointed which leads me to think it is really a half-elf or even an elf.  Imagine an elf cleric in old school D&D.

 I noticed that a dwarf mini I had painted last year comes from the same boxed set, so I must really really like it.

I decided on a blue and silver color scheme for the cleric, with hints of gold around.  I assume he does not want to be flashy, but at the same time wants to look respectable and devout.  I added some freehand Celtic knot patterns to the bottom of his tunic for a little interest.

The freehand on the shield is not very well done, but I grew tired of the mini so I stopped perfecting it.  This is supposed to be the symbol of the D&D god Lathander...a road leading into the sunset.

Again I decided to use real metallic paints here.  I washed the hammer pick and shield with various Citadel washes to try and make them look aged and interesting.  The chain mail is bright silver as I was going for a shiny clean cleric look.

He will go in the case now as one of the brave adventurers trying to fight off all the monster minis I have painted.  It is very possible he could be used for gaming if someone in our group wanted a human cleric mini.

Grenadier Personality: Female Cleric

One of my twin daughters really likes this cleric, and has been playing with her for a year now.  She has only had primer on her until this last week when I decided to paint her up (get off my lazy butt).   I buckled down and forced myself to paint the face first.  Once the face came to life, painting the rest of the figure went really quick.  I asked my daughter to choose the color combinations for her clothes, which always seems to stump me, and she made a really great selection.

This is one of Julie Guthrie's sculpts I believe.  It seems Julie has worked for all the big names like Reaper and Grenadier and Ral Partha.   Julie, if you are reading this, you are a fantastic sculptor!!  My favorite !

 I used a Reaper metallic gold paint on her..and the problem with these metallic paints is that the metal flakes bunch up and don't give me a really smooth surface. The mini looks crusty in the metal areas.  Oh well, there must be some way to water it way down, perhaps shake it for an hour, and then get a smooth metallic.
